A week is enough to see a great deal without rushing. This is the route we build most often for people travelling alone.
The route
Nairobi to Lake Nakuru, then Lake Naivasha, then three nights in the Masai Mara, returning to Nairobi. Short driving legs and three genuinely different habitats.
Why three nights in the Mara
One night gives you two game drives and a lot of luck. Three nights means you can wait at a river crossing, revisit a leopard sighting and still have a morning spare.
Managing the single supplement
Ask specifically for camps that waive it, or travel in green season when many do. A shared vehicle for the Nakuru and Naivasha legs cuts cost further.
What it costs
Mid range, roughly 1,600 to 2,200 US dollars for six nights including park fees, vehicle, guide and full board. Green season pulls that down by a quarter.
Optional additions
A dawn balloon flight over the Mara, or three nights at Diani afterwards if you want to finish on the coast.
