The Best Safari In Kenya For First Timers

4 Sep 20262 min read

If this is your first safari, the goal is not to see the most. It is to see well, without spending your holiday in a vehicle.

The route we recommend most

Five days covering Lake Nakuru, Lake Naivasha and the Masai Mara. Three genuinely different habitats, short driving legs between them and a very high chance of the Big Five.

Why not add more parks

Every extra park costs you half a day of driving. First timers consistently report that the mornings they remember are the ones where they sat with a single sighting for an hour, not the ones spent covering ground.

Where to stay

Mid range tented camps are the sweet spot for a first trip. You get a proper bed, hot water and good food, while still hearing the bush at night. Around $250 to $400 per person per day all in.

What to expect on a game drive

Out early while it is cold and animals are active, back for breakfast, rest through the heat, then out again from four until dusk. Bring a fleece. Mornings in the Mara are colder than most people expect.
