THE GREAT MIGRATION
The Great Wildebeest Migration Explained
It is not one event but a continuous loop. Around two million wildebeest, zebra and gazelle follow the rains clockwise through the Serengeti and into the Masai Mara, then back again.
Calving happens in the southern Serengeti between January and March, when roughly half a million calves are born within a few weeks. The river crossings people picture happen from July to October in the north.

June to October is the classic dry season with the easiest game viewing. January to March is calving season in the south and excellent for predators. April and May are wet, quiet and considerably cheaper.
Yes. Most nationalities can apply online at visa.immigration.go.tz for around 50 US dollars, allowing five to ten working days. Visas on arrival are available at major airports but the queues can be long. See our visa page.
Very easily. Flights from Arusha or the Serengeti airstrips to Zanzibar take about an hour, and three or four nights on the island is the usual way to finish a safari.
Yes. The northern circuit of Serengeti, Ngorongoro, Tarangire and Manyara packs a great deal into a week and needs very little backtracking.
