OVERVIEW AND LOCATION

Akagera National Park At A Glance

Akagera is the conservation success story of the region. By 2010 it had lost its lions and rhino entirely and much of the park had been settled. Under a partnership between African Parks and the Rwandan government, poaching collapsed, lions returned in 2015 and eastern black rhino in 2017. Today it is a functioning Big Five park a two hour drive from Kigali, with a chain of lakes along its eastern edge that make boat safaris possible.
