A straight breakdown of what you pay for, so you can judge whether a quote is fair before you commit to it.
The daily rate
Budget camping 150 to 220 US dollars per person per day. Mid range 250 to 400. Luxury 450 to 800. Ultra luxury with fly-in transfers starts around 900.
Park fees are fixed
Masai Mara entry is 100 US dollars per adult per day in high season. Amboseli and Nakuru around 70. Tanzanian fees run higher. These are government charges and identical whatever you spend on your bed.
Where the money goes
On a mid range seven day trip, roughly 35 percent to accommodation, 30 percent to park and conservancy fees, 25 percent to vehicle and guide, the remainder to meals and water.
Kenya against Tanzania
Tanzanian park fees are higher, so equivalent trips typically run 20 to 30 percent more than Kenya.
How to spend less without ruining it
Travel green season, share a vehicle, pick parks with lower entry fees, stay just outside the reserve boundary. Cutting nights is usually a false economy.
