There is no single best month. There is a best month for what you want to see and what you want to pay.
July to October, peak season
The Great Migration is in the Masai Mara and the weather is dry. Game viewing is at its easiest because vegetation is short and animals concentrate near water. Camps fill months ahead and prices are at their highest.
January to March, shoulder season
Calving season. Warm, clear and excellent for predators following the newborn herds. Fewer vehicles than peak and noticeably better rates.
April to June, green season
The long rains. Landscapes are lush, birdlife is outstanding and rates drop sharply. Some camps close and roads can be difficult, but the parks are almost empty.
November to December, short rains
Brief afternoon showers, fresh grass and good value. A sensible compromise if you want reasonable weather without peak season pricing.
