They share an ecosystem and a migration. The differences that actually matter are cost, crowding and how much driving you are willing to do.
Cost
Kenya is cheaper. Park fees are lower, the infrastructure is more mature and there is more competition. Tanzanian daily rates typically run 20 to 30 percent higher for equivalent comfort.
The migration
The herds spend roughly nine months in Tanzania and three in Kenya. If you are travelling July to October, the Mara is the obvious choice. Any other month, Tanzania is where the animals are.
Crowding
The Mara is smaller and busier, so popular sightings gather vehicles. The Serengeti is vast enough that you can lose the crowds, particularly outside Seronera.
Driving
Kenyan parks sit closer together, so transfers are shorter. Tanzania rewards flying between airstrips, which adds cost but saves days.
