About This Wildebeest Calving Safari
A wildebeest calving safari is the least known and, for many guides, the most exciting part of the migration year. Between January and March the herds gather on the short grass plains around Ndutu in the southern Serengeti, and most of the calves are born within a few weeks. Lion, cheetah and hyena gather too, which makes it one of the best times of year for predator action.
This itinerary picks you up at the Isebania border after a Masai Mara safari, so it continues naturally from a Kenya trip. You spend two days in the central Serengeti, two days on the Ndutu plains, a morning in the Ngorongoro Crater and a final day in Tarangire before crossing back to Kenya at Namanga.
Camps near Ndutu fill early in February, so we suggest booking at least six months ahead.
