About This David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage
The David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage is the best known conservation project in Nairobi, and this day tour pairs it with the two other things the city does better than anywhere else. You start with an early game drive in Nairobi National Park, the only national park inside a capital city, where black and white rhino, lion and giraffe live within sight of the office towers.
At eleven you move to the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust nursery for the one hour public visit, when the orphaned elephants come in for their milk feed and the keepers explain each calf’s story. After lunch at a nearby mall, the afternoon is at the Giraffe Centre, where you can feed endangered Rothschild’s giraffe from a raised platform.
It is a favourite for families, first mornings in Kenya before a longer safari, and long layovers. Hotel pick up and drop off anywhere in Nairobi are included.

The Full Itinerary
Pick up at 6.30 for an early game drive in Nairobi National Park, the best time for rhino and lion. Leave the park around 10.00 for the Sheldrick orphanage’s one hour visit from 11.00, when the young elephants are fed and play in the mud. Lunch at a nearby mall, then the Giraffe Centre in Karen to feed the Rothschild’s giraffe before a drop back at your hotel in the late afternoon.
