About This Aberdare Safari
This Aberdare safari is Kenya’s cool, green alternative to the savannah. The Aberdare National Park is a high forest of bamboo and moorland, known for its waterfalls and for tree lodges where elephant, buffalo and even the rare bongo antelope come to the waterhole at night while you watch from the deck.
The second day takes you to the slopes of Mount Kenya, Africa’s second highest mountain, for a guided forest walk on the lower trails with a packed lunch. There is no technical climbing and no summit attempt, just a chance to walk in the montane forest with views of the peaks when the cloud lifts.
It is ideal for travellers who have already seen the Mara, keen birders, and anyone who wants a short, quieter trip close to Nairobi. It can also open a longer northern safari to Samburu.

The Full Itinerary
Leave Nairobi at 7.30 and drive through the tea and coffee farms of the central highlands. After lunch, visit the Karuru and Gura falls on a forest drive, then settle in at your tree lodge to watch the waterhole into the night.

After breakfast, drive to the lower slopes of Mount Kenya for a guided walk through the forest with a packed lunch, looking for colobus monkey, forest birds and the peaks above. Return to the Aberdare region in the afternoon.
