About This 8 Day Kenya Safari
This 8 day Kenya safari is the most complete week you can spend in the country without flying. It opens in the Samburu National Reserve, where the dry north supports five species you will not see on the southern circuit, and moves on to Ol Pejeta Conservancy for black rhino, the northern white rhino enclosure and the chimpanzee sanctuary.
From the equator you drop into the Rift Valley. Lake Nakuru is Kenya’s most reliable park for rhino, Lake Naivasha adds a boat trip and an afternoon in Hell’s Gate, and the last two nights are in the Masai Mara with a full day on the plains.
If you only have one week in Kenya and want to see more than one kind of landscape, this is the route we suggest most often. It works all year, and between July and October the Mara days coincide with the migration.

Leave Nairobi early and drive north past Mount Kenya, arriving in Samburu for lunch. The afternoon drive along the Ewaso Ng’iro River looks for reticulated giraffe, gerenuk and elephant.

An early drive, then a full day with a packed lunch in search of the Special Five and the reserve’s lion, leopard and cheetah.
