The shortest sensible gorilla itinerary. Bwindi holds close to half the world remaining mountain gorillas, and the permit is included. Most people describe the hour with the family as the single most affecting thing they have done.
Depart Entebbe after breakfast and drive southwest, crossing the equator with a photo stop. Arrive at Lake Mburo for an afternoon game drive among zebra, impala and eland, the only Ugandan park where they occur. Overnight near the park.
An early start for the drive through the terraced hills of southwestern Uganda to Bwindi, arriving in the late afternoon. Briefing for the following morning trek and an early night. Overnight at the forest edge.
Report to the park headquarters at 07:30 for briefing and allocation to a gorilla family. The trek can take anywhere from two to eight hours through steep, dense forest. Once the family is found you spend one hour with them. Porters are available and strongly recommended. Overnight at Bwindi.
After breakfast, the long drive back to Entebbe with a lunch stop en route, arriving in the evening for your onward flight or an overnight stay.
